The English parakeet was born in 1989.

The English parakeet was born in 1989.

HOW THIS SPECIES EMERGED:

As everyone knows, the Australian parakeet is what is known as the common parakeet, but after a long time of work, a new species was created that was baptized as the English parakeet, since it was bred in England.

We could say that we are facing a fairly new species, since the English parakeet took more than half a century to become what it is now, after the great efforts of breeders in selective breeding.

The English parakeet as it is known today was born in 1989.

HOW IS THE ENGLISH PARAKETO:

It is quite easy to differentiate, since the English parakeet has a yellow neck and throat.

On the throat it has a series of black dots, all of the same size, and on the side of each side of the neck some dark blue drops that end in two small black spots.

Its beak is light in color, except where it joins the face, which has a bit of blue featherless meat.

Its chest, abdomen, and underside of the tail are light green, going down to its short legs, which are light blue.

Its nape, back and wings mix yellow with black, in feathers that seem wavy.

It is especially distinguished by the great size it has when perched on the perches.

Within the species of English parakeets there are smaller specimens, about 10 cm, and others that can reach 15 cm, and instead of having smooth plumage, they can have many feathers or a small crest on the head.

In these cases it is considered a "pseudo" English parakeet.

CARE OF THE ENGLISH PARAKETO:

The truth is that it does not differ much from other parakeets.

Since its size is not very large, a suitable cage in which it can stretch its wings from time to time to fly from one side to the other will suffice.

Of character it is not usually very aggressive and does not mind sharing a cage with members of another species.

Since it does not present sexual dimorphism, its breeding is not highly recommended for people who lack experience in this field.

Its upbringing does not differ much from what it is to obtain a common Australian parakeet, but achieving a pure English parakeet is quite complicated, even for the most experienced breeders.

ENGLISH BUDGEOG NUTRITION:

Its diet consists mainly of birdseed, but you can also give it other foods such as pieces of fruit, vegetables or seeds, as long as they are not germinated, so that it receives nutrients.

So that its plumage always has a shiny appearance, it is good to give it some vitamin complex in the water.

BEHAVIOR OF THE ENGLISH PARAKETO:

It is not a bird destined to be trained nor is it very thought of as a domestic bird, but rather it has been a species that has been created for exhibition contests.

Some breeders usually teach him some tricks such as climbing on the finger or eating from the hand.

It is not as intelligent as other species of birds, but with a little patience, these little tricks can be taught without much trouble.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE AUSTRALIAN BUDGEOGS AND THE ENGLISH BUDGEOG:

The colors and some "spots" on their feathers are almost identical, it is very difficult to differentiate them if we take this parameter into account, but they do have differences visible to the naked eye:

ENGLISH PARAKETO:

It is much larger than the Australian: it measures between 24 and 25 centimeters.

On the other hand, its weight can reach 60 grams, with the minimum weight being about 45 grams.

His head is large and his eyes are hidden in the feathers on the top of his head.

In fact, this is another of the most obvious characteristics: the feathers on the head are quite abundant and without a clear direction compared to the Australian parakeet, whose feathers are more molded to the skull.

Lastly, English parakeets are calmer and more docile than Australian ones.

They can stay alive longer with proper care.

AUSTRALIAN PARAKETO:

Its size is much smaller than its similar ones, it is 18 centimeters maximum, while its weight can be around 35 and 45 grams.

His head is rounder due to the arrangement of his feathers. These birds are more restless and curious. Trying to pick them up can be very painful as they will bite your hand and make loud noises.

YOU CAN CROSS THESE TWO PARAKEETS:

The answer is yes, and the result of this cross is a Pseudo-English Parakeet.

This species is the average of its parents in terms of size and weight, as it will be larger than the Aussie, but smaller than the English.

His traits such as being corpulent or calmer than another will depend on the characteristics of his parents, but in effect he is a mixture of both.

Sometimes it can be confused with an Australian.

If you see a bird like this, but are unsure whether it is English or Australian, and don't know where it came from, it is most likely a Pseudo-English.
