The equestrian contests, the aviation exhibitions or the sailing regattas that were held in the festive seasons, together with the cycling races and soccer, constituted, from the first years of the century, the most important competitions.
Normally, the announcement of the different sporting events were included in small vignettes on the page of the annual advertising poster for the festivities.
Only football and cycling would have their own advertising poster since the beginning of the century.
Soccer, soon introduced to Galicia by English influence, was one of the most popular.
It is not surprising that the main clubs requested artists to design their advertisements or that posters were produced for some extraordinary games of the season.
And, although few, the examples that we know of are notable, such as those made by Francisco Lloréns for the Sports Club of La Coruña and, the latest, for the Real Club Celta de Vigo by Federico Ribas.
Already in 1909, on the occasion of the founding of the Real Club Deportivo de la Coruña and their first meetings in the Riazor park, Lloréns was commissioned three attractive advertisements.
In this article we are going to comment on this poster of the great Foot-Ball Math: we see an elegant woman dressed in the fashion of the time, with a parasol and a dog, also standing out against a neutral background.
It is characterized by the simplicity of its drawing, by the stylized profile and the elegance of its silhouettes, barely shaded.
His use of the possibilities of the two-dimensional poster design, the use only of the line and of flat colors, freed from scenography, shows us a Lloréns close to the currents of Catalan poster art of the time, evidencing positions different from those of the poster for the Regional Exhibition of Santiago executed on these same dates.
